Nikolay Nekrasov

Nikolai Alexeyevich Nekrasov (Russian Николай Алексеевич Некрасов, scientific transliteration Nikolay Nekrasov Alekseevic; * 28 Novemberjul / December 10 1821greg in Nemirowo, .. .. † December 27 1877jul / January 8 1878greg in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian poet and publicist.

Nekrasov was the son of an officer. At age 16, he left high school and joined the military, then prepared himself but to his father's wish but to study before. After he failed the entrance exam, he was from 1839-1841 guest student at the Faculty of Philology of the University of St. Petersburg. For financial reasons, he had to stop the study and then eked out his life as a journalist. After the success of his first poems he was promoted Vissarion Belinsky of, employees of Otetschestwennye Sapiski. In 1846 he founded the short-lived magazine Peterburgski Sbornik, but acquired in the same year the journal Sovremennik, he made one of the leading publications of the time. In 1866 he had to sell the magazine, from 1875, he was seriously ill.

Nekrasov is considered the most important Russian poet of realism. Most of his poems deal with social issues, especially with the life of Russian peasants by the abolition of serfdom.

Nekrasov was even immortalized on a modern Russian coin in silver.
