Nissan Island

The small island is part of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville Nissan in Papua New Guinea. The island has an area of ​​37 km ² and extends up to 34 m above the sea. It is the main island of the same name Nissan Atoll and the Green Islands in total, consisting of the atolls Nissan and Pinipel. Nissan is approached from Rabaul ( New Britain ) and Buka out at irregular intervals of supply ships. The runway from the Second World War still exists, but is no longer used since 2007. Only significant economic activity is the export of copra.

Nissan had spoken about 4700 inhabitants, there are two Austronesian languages ​​in 2000.
