Nitrosyl sulfuric acid is a chemical compound having the formula (NO) HSO4. The salt is a source of Nitrosylions (NO ) and belongs to the group of hydrogen sulfates.
Occurrence
Nitrosyl sulfuric acid is formed for example in the purification of exhaust gas (flue gas) from the metal-processing industry when wet cleaning processes are used with sulfuric acid.
Production and representation
Nitrosyl sulfuric acid formed in the reaction of nitrogen oxides with concentrated sulfuric acid ( for example as a by-product of lead chamber process). It can also be obtained by the reaction of nitrous acid with sulfuric acid or by the introduction of sulfur dioxide in the nitric acid.
Use
Nitrosylsulfuric is used:
- For the preparation of caprolactam, colorants and pesticides,
- For diazotization of amines ( as a substitute for nitrosylsulfuric other NO donating compounds such as nitrosyl tetrafluoroborate [ NO] BF4 or nitrosyl chloride can thereby be used).
