The film was first shown on September 10, 2012 at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released on April 5, 2013 the U.S. theaters. The ARD showed the documentation in a voice-over version on 20 January 2014.

Action

The female head of the family, Esther Stermer hid 1942, the members of their and other Jewish families in the caves Ozerna and Verteba in western Ukraine ( Ternopil Oblast / Rayon Borschtschiw ) in order to protect them from the Nazis. It was a total of 38 people.

Background

The researcher Christopher Nicola took place in 1993 during an expedition remains of buttons and shoes. His discoveries led to the survivors were able to report on it and found faith. Janet Tobias filmed this story. In a re-enactment scenes were re-enacted. Some survivors who now live mainly in New York City and Montreal, visited the cave after 67 years together with two grandchildren.
