Noemí Simonetto de Portela

Noëmi Simonetto de Portela ( born 1 February 1926 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, † February 20, 2011 ibid ) was an Argentine athlete, the 1948 Olympic silver medalist in the long jump.

At the age of 15 years Noëmi Simonetto participated in her hometown of Buenos Aires to the South Championships in 1941. In the high jump with 1.45 meters and the long jump with 4.96 meters she finished in third place, respectively. In the 100 - meter race she finished second in 12.5 seconds, and also in the high jump with 1.50 meters, it reached the second place. In the South America Championship 1947 in Rio de Janeiro it was like 1945, the successful participant. The victories in the 100 - meter dash in 12.4 seconds and the hurdles in 11.5 seconds followed victories in the long jump with 5.40 meters and with the relay in 49.9 seconds. In the high jump she crossed 1.55 meters, thus reaching again the second behind the Chilean Ilse Barends. Overall Noëmi Simonetto won championships in South America 11 title and three silver and bronze medals.

At the 1948 Olympic Games in London Noëmi Simonetto de Portela difference in the 100 -meter hurdle flow and in the semi-finals, but reached the finals in the long jump, where she won the silver medal with 5.60 meters behind the Hungarian Olga Gyarmati.
