Norbert Grund

Norbert Joseph Carl Grund ( born December 4, 1717 Prague, † July 17, 1767 ) was a Czech painter.

Life

The basic family came from the north-western Bohemia, where their mark traced back to the 17th century. The father Christian Grund was court painter of the noble family of Kolowrat, the brothers of Norbert Grund were musicians who appeared in many European countries. Norbert Grund first learned to 1738 with his father, before he went to Vienna in the same year, probably to Venice. In 1753 he was accepted into the painters' guild of Prague's Lesser Town and appointed masters. His large family and low income led to an enormous creative power, which were hundreds of small format paintings, painted on wood, metal and rare on canvas obtained.

Importance

Reason was a leading figure of the Czech Chamber of Rococo painting. Formative influences, he was in his time in Vienna by Franz de Paula Ferg, followed by the Venetian Baroque painting. Later still got basic influences of the French Rococo painting, which he had met through stitches. In the 1750s and 1760s he joined Dutch motifs with light and color of the Rococo. In recent years, already make echoes of classicism noticeable.

Thematically, he concentrated on landscapes and genre painting. Many of his paintings include robust designs and battle illustrations. His landscapes show impressions of cities, villages and ruins. He also painted to order and biblical themes. His works of imaginary worlds full of dreams about life, the poetry and the beauty that build on the representations of Peter Johann Brandl and Imre Reiner, inspired many painters of the aftermath, including Josef Navratil, Josef Manes and Aleš.
