Geography

Location

The municipality is situated approximately north churches in the center of the city triangle Dortmund, Münster and Hamm. Neighboring municipalities are starting and named in the west clockwise Luedinghausen, sending ash and mountain in Coesfeld and Werne and Selm from the district of Unna.

History

The first recorded mention of North Kirchen comes from a deed from the diocese of Münster and is dated 1022-1032. At the time of Siegfried Walbeck was the bishop of Münster. From the 13th century the family of Morrien leased the farm north churches and directed and managed northern churches until the 16th century. 1561 North Church is finally handed over by the buy-out of the ground lease of Morriens.

After extinction of the family of the Prince-Bishop of Münster Morrien Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg acquires the entire family. This is also laying the foundation for the construction of today's baroque moated castle in 1703. The construction of the castle northern churches lasts from 1708 to 1734. Northern churches remains in the possession of Plettenberg family until the last male successor in 1813 dies.

Between 1813 and 1815 the county in towns, municipalities and ministries will be divided. This includes the communities of North and South Church Churches to the Official Northern churches.

Through the marriage of Maria von Plettenberg with the Hungarian Count Nicholas -Maria -Franz Esterházy Galantha go the possessions of North Kirchen over to the Esterházy family. One of his descendants, it is also being sold the whole property north Kirchen 1903 to the Duke Engelbert of Arenberg.

1923 Capelle is added to the district of northern churches.

Incorporations

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 28 November 1983 by the regional council of Münster.

Blazon: " Or, three blue 2:1 Asked steeples, the top two with a pointed, the lower with baroque helmet. "

The three spiers represent the three districts in which the name occurs Church ( chapel ), symbolic dar. It is thus a canting arms.

Structures

The dominant building material in north- churches are dark red bricks. In the center of town is the Catholic Church of St. Mauritius, built in 1715 by Gottfried Laurenz Pictorius as a Baroque hall church. Another interesting religious building is the octagonal St. John of Nepomuk Chapel dating from 1722.
