Norðlýsið

Norðlýsið [ noəɹlʊisɪ ] ( Faroese: the northern lights ) is a weekly newspaper in the Faroe Islands. It appears in Klaksvík and is designed as a regional newspaper for the North Islands.

Norðlýsið appeared for the first time on April 16, 1915 (then in Danish, because there are no letters for the letter ð in the print shop was ). The article on the front page sat on passionate way against the First World War raged in Europe itself. He concludes with the words:

From the beginning it was intended as a political party unhabhängige newspaper. Norðlýsið today has a circulation of about 2,000 copies and two fixed editors. In addition, there are a number of freelancers.

In contrast to the two "big" newspapers Dimmalætting and Sosialurin Norðlýsið has a website where all articles are freely accessible. This is held on a daily basis, reflects but unlike portal.fo primarily news from Klaksvíker view. There is an open forum reader ( kjak ) and online surveys ( atkvøð ) on current issues of the day.

On 26 October 2005 reported Norðlýsið that there should also be a regional edition for the northern part of the island Eysturoy future. This step was justified by the imminent opening of the North Island Tunnel, which brings closer the East Island and the northern islands to each other.
