Norman Malcolm

Norman Malcolm ( born 1911 in Selden, Kansas, † 1990) was an American philosopher. He received his doctorate at Harvard, from 1940 he worked at Princeton University.

During his stay in Cambridge from 1938 he met Ludwig Wittgenstein and attended the lectures on the foundations of mathematics in 1939, he became a close friend of Wittgenstein and his 1958 published memoirs ( to German: Memories of Wittgenstein). Regarded today as one of the best evidence Wittgenstein's remarkable personality.

1942-1945 Malcolm served the United States Navy. For most of his career in America he spent at Cornell University ( 1947-1958 ) before he emigrated to the United Kingdom.
