Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri

Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri AS in Oslo, known as NEBB, was from 1908 to 1988, a Norwegian subsidiary of the Swiss company Brown, Boveri & Cie ( BBC). The company was founded in 1988 part of the Asea Brown Boveri (ABB). NEBB built electrical equipment for locomotives and railcars for Norges Statsbaner ( NSB) in factories in Skoyen and Strømmen.

History

To the Frogner and Bestumkilen in Christiania was founded in the 20th century several mechanical workshops, which today are still some important components of large corporations at the turn of the 19th.

Predecessor on the plot of NEBB at the Sjølyst Avenue was Frognerkilens factory, which was founded in 1874. She built agricultural machinery, foundry equipment and sewing machines. In 1880 she found her niche: the manufacture of electrical machinery. The first of these was delivered in 1881.

In 1894 the company received a new name: Norsk Elektrisk AS. Ten years later, working with Brown, Boveri & Cie began. and 1908 were the two companies merged to Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri AS. The company was thus part of Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget ( ASEA ). In 1948, the merger with Skabo jernbanevognfabrik. Skabo was closed in 1973 and production moved to Strømmens Værksted whose purchase of NEBB in 1979. 1988 NEBB became a part of Asea Brown Boveri.

1993 ended the industrial production of NEBB. At the factory site offices, homes and shops were built. Some buildings were received in memory of NEBB and Skabo.
