North Port is a city in Sarasota County in the U.S. state of Florida with 57 357 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

North Port is located on the Myakka River, adjacent to the Myakka River State Park and is in close proximity to the Gulf Coast of Florida. The town is located about 40 km south of Sarasota and 120 km south of Tampa.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 57 357 inhabitants distributed to 27,986 households. The population density was x inh. / Km ². 87.6 % of the population were white, 7.0% African American, 0.3% Native American and 1.2% Asian Americans. 1.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.2% in different ethnic groups. 8.7% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 32.1 % of all households lived in 32.9 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 72.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.55 persons and the average family size is 2.95 people.

26.4 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.3% were 20-39 years old, 26.5% were 40-59 years old and 24.8 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 41 years. 48.8 % of the population were male and 51.2 % female.

The average annual income was $ 49,026, while 9.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 88.50 % of the population spoke Spanish 3.15% and 8.35% had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

Northport is from Interstate 75 and the Tamiami Trail ( U.S. 41 ) crosses. The nearest airport is Sarasota- Bradenton International Airport ( some 55 km to the north ).
