North Slavic languages

The terms North Slavs or nordslawisch is a sub-grouping of the Slavs. The term is, however, unclear defined:

  • Ethnographic as a controversial term for the Western and Eastern Slavs (as opposed to the Southern Slavs in the Balkans )
  • As a mainly Russian side applied preamble to highlight a supposedly close relationship between Pan-Slavic Poles, Czechs and Russians, and thus to establish the membership of Poland to Russia
  • Linguistically, a hypothetical fourth Slavic language group, which is postulated due to the linguistic features of the altnowgoroder dialect of birch bark documents
  • As a group of planned languages ​​( a fictional fourth Slavic language group )
