The small town is situated on the east coast Norðtoftir Borðoys immediately at the end of the second tunnel the road from Klaksvík. The nearest larger towns in the area are Norðdepil and Hvannasund on the further course of the road. Norðtoftir was a favored residence of the writer Herman Bang, who wrote many of his works here.
