Nothobranchius is a genus of Nothobranchiidae family. The name derives from the Greek words nothos = " false" and branchion = " gills" from. The species of this genus are among the Prachtgrundkärpflingen.
Habitat
The genus is native to East Africa. The various species z.T. a very small area of distribution, which could be due to the lack of systematic research. All species colonize pools and ponds in the savannah, which form in the rainy season and almost always dry up in the dry season. It is the season fish in nature have a short life expectancy of less than one year. Under standard conditions, as a laboratory animal types can significantly older than 12 months (Lucas - Sanchez et al., 2011).
Appearance
Nothobranchius species have a stout body shape, the body is tall and brawny especially in the males. The fish are only 4-7 inches tall. The genus includes extremely colorful species.
