Nottingham Island

Nottingham Iceland ( Inuktitut: Tujjaat ) is an Arctic island in Nunavut, Canada. It lies at the junction of the Hudson Bay to Hudson Strait.

Their land area is 1372 km ². The highest elevation of the island reaches a height of 412 m. Salisbury Iceland is 58 km long and 35 km wide.

Discovered and named after the English city of Nottingham, the island was in 1610 by the English navigator Henry Hudson. 1884, a weather station was built. In 1927 an airfield to observe from there the movement of the ice in the Hudson Bay can. 1970 left the last Inuit the island and settled in the larger settlements of Baffin Island, especially Cape Dorset on.

Nottingham Iceland is known for its walrus colonies.
