In the north of the station, the Lazarev ( Nowolasarewskaja, nivl ) ice shelf extends about 80 km to the Riiser -Larsen Lake ( the Lazarev Sea lies to the west ). The inland south of Schirmacher Oasis reached already at a distance of 50 km altitude of 1500 m. The next stop is the Indian research station Maitri 5 km away.

History

On March 10, 1959, the Soviet Union O- 69.96666666666712.916666666667 built on the Lazarev Ice Shelf about 100 kilometers northeast of the present-day station at 69 ° 58 ' "0 0 12 ° 55 S, ' " the research station Lazarev. The maximum crew of the station in summer reaches up to 70 people. In winter, average of 30 scientists and technicians working in the Nowolasarewskaja station.

Research

1964/65, the crew of the station participated in scientific projects for the International Year of the quiet Sun. On Nowolasarewskaja series of measurements on the aurora, the ionosphere, the geomagnetic field and meteorological conditions to investigate the influence of solar activity were carried out on the earth during a sunspot minimum.

At present, include the scientific research on the station the disciplines of geodesy, glaciology, limnology, geomagnetic, geology, biology, seismology, meteorology, and other specialties. At the site there is a monitoring station of SDCM system.

Logistics

Nowolasarewskaja has a landing and runway at a stable blue ice. Since 2002, the organization DROMLAN leads ( Dronning Maud Land Air Network ) scientific and commercial flights with an Ilyushin 76TD from Cape Town through the " Novo Airfield " (Novo Runway ) the Nowolasarewskaja station. Operator of the flight connection is the airline Antarctic Antarctic Logistics Centre International ( ALCI ). Nowolasarewskaja is one of the entry and exit points for the Antarctic logistics. From here, both the German Neumayer and Kohnen and Halley, SANAE -IV, Troll and the Japanese Showa station are served among others.

The station was the starting point of the television production race to the South Pole in December 2010.
