NSU Type 110

The Type 110 was presented at the International Motor Show of 1965, rounding out the former NSU program upwards. The Type 110 was based on the NSU Prinz 1000, but had a longer wheelbase and a longer body front, which significantly increased the interior and luggage space.

From the outside, the Type 110 was easily distinguished by its rectangular headlights, the large front trim panel and the wide tail lamps from the smaller Prince 1000. Inside, the fashionable band speedometer, a strip of wood veneer and a new heating and ventilation system for middle-class flair should make.

As the prince in 1000 and its sporting offspring TT / TTS equipped with a space-saving transverse-mounted, air-cooled four-cylinder rear engine and the Type 110. At the beginning of the Type 110 was delivered with a 39 kW ( 53 hp ) engine with 1085 cc capacity, which was also used in the Prinz 1000 TT, but there 1.5 kW ( 2 HP) made more. NSU 1200

1967 NSU straightened the entire model range, and the models were partly new names. From the 110 type as was the NSU in 1200, which was 1.2 - liter engine and 40 kW ( 55 PS) produced by 22 December 1972. At the request of NSU in 1200 could be delivered 80 with the three -speed automatic transmission of the NSU Ro.

For that time the NSU 1200 C offered as a small " comfort sedan " very impressive performance. The Sprint from 0 bis 80 km / h abolished the car in just under 9 seconds to around 60 km / h it was the NSU 1200 C easily compete with far larger and more powerful cars.

Between 1967 and 1973 about 256,000 units were built of NSU in 1200 and 1200 C.

The suspension with semi-trailing arm rear axle was - as with all four-cylinder NSUs - very modern and made for sporty handling. The disadvantage was the extreme crosswind sensitivity of the rear-wheel drive, especially with the cross-ply tires was still offered by default; with the arising at the same time steel-belted tire that was then hardly an issue. Excellent, however, was the handling of the vehicle in city traffic and in mountain regions, and winter performance.

Once the likely ease of repair of the car have been: nearly all car parts were easily interchangeable. The clutch could be changed in just 30 minutes. However, the air-cooled engines were already struggling in the series version frequently to overheating; for a tuning of the otherwise excellently suited for performance improvements engines therefore was the first and most important measure of the installation of an oil cooler and putting up the hood to improve ventilation.

As rustproofing the NSU - compact car had a complex zinc dust paint the subfloor. Recommended by the NSU factory inspections should be carried out every 7500 km; Were standard at the time the inspection intervals of 5,000 km.
