Nuenen

Nuenen is a town in the municipality of Nuenen, Gerwen en Nederwetten ( province of North Brabant, Netherlands), which often include short Nuenen Nuenen ca or called. With approximately 19,500 inhabitants of this district is also the largest of the community.

The name comes from Nuenen Nuenhem, which means new home.

In the 8th century there lived a Germanic tribe to the point where Nuenen is today. On December 4, 1300 Duke John II ( Brabant) wrote a letter in which he determined that the ground to the residents of Nuenen Gerwen and is to be transferred as a fief. This letter has been preserved.

During World War II it came in Nuenen skirmishes between Americans and Germans, among others, what the content of an episode of the miniseries Band of Brothers - We were representing like brothers.

Vincent van Gogh lived and worked for two years (1883-1885) in Nuenen, where he developed his own style. He painted over 180 works, including his famous painting The Potato Eaters ( De Aaardappeleters ).
