Nur-Astana Mosque

The Only -Astana Mosque (Russian Мечеть Нұр - Астана ) in the Kazakh capital Astana is the largest mosque in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. It was opened by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev after three years of construction in 2005 and can accommodate 5,000 worshipers and another 2,000 outside the building.

The golden dome of the mosque has a total height of 40 meters and the four minarets each 63 meters high. The height of the dome represents the age of the prophet Muhammad when he received the revelation and the height of the minarets symbolized the age in which Muhammad died.

The Only -Astana Mosque was a gift from the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and the current Emir of Qatar, Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani.
