Nuremberg Ring Railway

The circle line is the Nuremberg goods ring that runs at a distance of three to four kilometers of the city center of Nuremberg.

History

The first section ( " South Ring " ) was opened on 1 October 1898 and joined the railway lines from Crailsheim, Augsburg and Regensburg with the " Rangierprovisorium " on the site of today's marshalling yard Nuremberg Rbf.

Just one year later, on July 1, 1899, was the first part of the " Northern ring " of Nuremberg East ( on the railway line Nuremberg - Cheb) on Nuremberg Nuremberg northeast to North Station will be put into operation. This was connected to the South Ring on May 1, 1900, the opening of the line Dutzendteich-Mögeldorf/Ostbahnhof.

The " ring closure " finally took place in two stages: On May 1, 1905, the extension of Nürnberg Nord was opened to Nuremberg Northwest, on October 1, followed in 1910 the last piece of Nuremberg Northwest to the branch point Muggenhof and from there to Fürth ( for railway Nuremberg -Bamberg ) and on Großreuth to the existing southern part of the ring road. For the approximately 30 km long ring was completed.

The southern part of the ring road was expanded to double track in 1903, 1935, the section was electrified from the central station over a dozen pond and marshalling yard for the rail line to Augsburg. The connection has been moved from the yard to the railway line between Nuremberg and Regensburg in 1938 by 1.6 km to the southeast for the construction of the Party Rally Grounds in the area between Luitpold Grove dozen pond and long water: the original connection was made from the west head of Einfahrbahnhofs, he conducted in an arc north on district inch past the house and split into height of Stadionbads to einzumünden Regensburg and at today's allotment gardens along the direction of Nuremberg main station in the railway line between Nuremberg and Regensburg. The new line connects at the east end of the Einfahrbahnhofs, then turns left and runs straight through the present town long water (then March Field north and SA camp south of the route) in order to branch and after the transfer of the Gliwice road the train track to meet in Regensburg. The existing breakpoint customs house was moved to the new route and March Field (now the Nuremberg - long water) built a new station to the to the expected crowds for the annual party days and carry away can.

Between 1938 and 1939, the northern ring road was expanded. About a new connection from the branch Eichelbergstrasse the railway line Nuremberg - Cheb with the Bahnhof Nürnberg -East by the empire Sebalder forest north Erlenstegens trains from Hersbruck could be passed directly to the northern ring road. To bypass the conversion in the North Station in the course, in 1939, the access roads were connected by the North-East and the North West railway station with a transit rails. This provides a simple northern bypass of the Nuremberg main station was possible before the Second World War.

Passenger traffic on the ring road

In the 1930s there were plans for passenger transport on the northern section of the ring road, but were thwarted by the Second World War, only on the portion Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof via Nuremberg Nuremberg East to West perverted 1911-1912 passenger trains. A further connection with passenger existed since 1904 on the route Nuremberg Hauptbahnhof- Nuremberg marshalling yard exit, the Greater Nuremberg was allowed to be used on 27 September 1987 by ordinary passengers to the entry into force of the transport association and was then further out to 1992 as a pure service trips with service passenger transport.

The ring road today

The southern part ( Fürth / Stone / Eibach - marshalling yard - dozen pond / branch Reichswaldhalle ) is now fully double-tracked and electrified. He continues to serve the supply of freight trains from Würzburg and Bamberg, Crailsheim, Augsburg and Regensburg coming to the yard. The northern part of Fürth to Nuremberg Northeast is single track and not electrified. Trains will only take place if the DMUs used on the Gräfenbergbahn (mostly Class 642; occasional series 648) assigned or exchanged after closing and special trains and locomotives of the railway infrastructure company Franconian Museum Railway of their operation workshop at Nuremberg Nordostbahnhof be transferred. The freight stations on the line are all built back in the late 1990s or Nürnberg Nord already closed down.

Also from Streckenrückbauten remained the circle line not spared: As a first portion connecting the South with the North ring from the branch wholesale market over the Frankenschnellweg and the railway line was discontinued after Bamberg to branch Muggenhof in the 1970s, bringing a complete biking the ring road only with change of direction is possible in Fürth. The connection through the Sebalder Reichswaldhalle of Nuremberg northeast to the junction Eichelbergstrasse the railway line Nuremberg - Cheb was decommissioned in 1980 and later dismantled on May 31, 1992, he was the section Nuremberg Nuremberg East northeast.

The planned since the 1930s, passenger traffic on the northern section of the ring road is still under discussion. So there is a plan in case transport Development Plan of the city of Nuremberg, which contains the Binding of Gräfenbergbahn on the circle line to Fürth and from there to the Rangaubahn after Cadolzburg. In the course of the investigation sector West a variant for a people train the Gräfenbergbahn with the railway line Rangaubahn on the circle line has been investigated. There, the holding Wetzendorf, clay, and North Station and the maintenance Buchenbühl should be built, possibly be reactivated.
