Nyanza, Rwanda

Nyanza is a city in the south of Rwanda. The city is located about 100 kilometers south of the capital Kigali and about 30 kilometers north of Butare and has about 56,000 inhabitants. It is also since the administrative reform of 2006 the capital of the district of the same name.

The reform allowed to officially use the name from the pre-republican period. Previously, the city was called Nyabisindu.

From 1958 to 1962 it was the capital of the Kingdom of Rwanda.

Attractions
