Tiger Lotus ( Nymphaea lotus )

The Tiger Lotus ( Nymphaea lotus ) is a species of the genus of water lilies (Nymphaea ) in the family Nymphaeaceae ( Nymphaeaceae ). She is from Africa and Southeast Asia. The Egyptian lotus flower also known as white -named species has two color morphs, one with green leaves and red spots ( Green Tiger Lotus ) and a morph with red leaves ( Red Tiger Lotus ).

The seeds are edible and are used as pseudo grain in question.

Description

Nymphaea lotus is a perennial herbaceous plant. This water plant forms from rhizomes and stolons. In addition to floating leaves, the plant produces strong submerged leaves that are 10 to 18 inches long and 8 to 10 inches wide.

The individually standing, hermaphrodite flower has a diameter of 12-25 centimeters. It opens at night, several nights in a row. The four sepals are green. There are 16 available to 20 white petals. The approximately 75 stamens are yellow.

The seed is 1.4 to 1.8 × 0.9 to 1.2 mm in size, which is about 1.5 to 1.6 times longer than wide.

A Nymphaea lotus var thermalis called shape comes in a lake, the hot water is fed by an underground hot spring, prior to Oradea in Romania.

The Tiger Lotus should not be confused with the real lotus flowers of the genus Nelumbo.

Cultural History

Lotus flowers were used by the ancient Egyptians as a victim. In the grave of Ramses II dried flower of tiger lotus and Nymphaea caerulea were found.
