Nzérékoré Region

Nzérékoré is a region of Guinea. It lies in the south of the country, bordering Sierra Leone, Liberia and the Ivory Coast. Its capital is the same Nzérékoré. The region has about 1.388 million inhabitants and consists of the prefectures Beyla, Guéckédou Lola, Macenta Nzérékore and Yomou. These are each named after their capital.

Nzérékoré largely corresponds to the geographical region Forest Guinea.

More recently, the Nzérékoré region as well as the adjacent prefectures in the north of refugees from neighboring countries, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ivory Coast were affected because of the protracted civil wars.
