The locomotives of the series 5047 are diesel railcar of the ÖBB.

History

Of the ÖBB 1983 an order for six new diesel railcars along the lines of the German model series 627 was awarded to the Jenbacher Werke. The first vehicle was completed in July 1987 and presented at an international press trip to Rosenburg am Kamp. After successful use on the lines of the "Pig Barth Cross" in Lower Austria's wine district, where the six were 5047 used in a fast- conceived "Special Plan", a total of 100 railcars were for the ÖBB with modified march converters of series 5047 and five sets (10 individual vehicles ) the number 5147 built. The Solo 5047 costed 27 million ATS, a control car would have hardly favorable with 22 million ATS. Therefore came for the 5147 solution as a double railcars in the form of two close-coupled vehicles for carrying; Control car for 5047 were not obtained, but there were inserts with bicycle car 7147 rebuilt from rail bus sidecar 7081st

These two types of vehicles replaced the old series 5044, 5144, 5145, 5146 and 5081, some of which dated from the interwar period, technically outdated and had reached the end of their economic life.

In contrast to trains with locomotive and passenger coaches, the railcars in the one-man operation (ÖBB - name " 0:0" ) driven and therefore labor costs are reduced because the driver can also carry out the sale of tickets. Later, all vehicles were equipped with ticket vending machines, this makes today the sale of tickets by the driver obsolete. With the use of these vehicles ÖBB were able to achieve a level of savings achieved on many branch lines.

Some railcars were modernized from 2004: They got new paint in the current ÖBB colors for the transport (angular design in red / gray, parts of the front in dark gray) away, furthermore, the seats were in the interior neubepolstert (in blue ) and the partition.

The success of the railcar prompted the two Austrian private railway Styrian Railways and Raab - Sopron - Ebenfurter Railway (now GYSEV Raaberbahn AG) also for the purchase of two vehicles of this series, which were taken by ÖBB rules. To " kilometers compensation " for the use of ÖBB vehicles on the private railways these railcars are also on ÖBB routes used. In contrast to the ÖBB railcars have the private railway vehicles roll band displays on the fronts.

Furthermore, the NVAG (now North German railway company Niebüll ) procured a railcar, which on the track Niebüll - Dagebüll is in use. This has a different interior with first and second class.

The seven vehicles 008, 020, 031, 044, 062, 068 and 100 were sold to the Raaberbahn AG ( GYSEV ) 2011. and as 247503-509 enqueued.

After 2005, the 5047 was replaced on some routes through the series 5022.
