Oberstedten is one of four districts of the city of Oberursel ( Taunus) in the Hoch-Taunus district, Hesse, it is located north of Oberurseler core city, adjacent to Bad Homburg.

History

The traditional historiography assumes that the place is first mentioned in 817 under the name " Stetine ": Emperor Louis the Pious ( 814-840 AD), son of Charlemagne, receives from the monastery of Fulda in exchange for Bingen home in the Wetterau some possessions in and between Harheim and Steden. According to the latest document interpretation is in this Steden all probability, but around the present Kilianstädten.

In the neighborhood of Stedten before 1180 the castle Hohenberg, who located on the site of today's castle in Bad Homburg, could be demonstrated by excavations in 2006 (see related article on the history of Bad Homburg ) is created. The client is Wortwin of Hohenberch that appears in a document in 1180 as a witness, which is included in the Oculus Memoriae, the nomenclature of goods of the monastery Eberbach. Since Wortwin already leads the nickname " of Hohenberch ", the castle already must have existed at that time also. Only from the Eppstein'schen fief directory shows that Wortwin is identical with " Wortwin of Steden ". But it is not clear whether he came from Stedten and the castle Hohenberch built later or moved after selling his castle after Stedten. By 1200, Hohenberg is sold to Gottfried von Eppstein. Also Stedten come into the possession of Eppstein.

1486 company is sold to Hanau. The land county Hessen occupied the place in 1504 and 1521 carried out the assignment of Hanau in Hesse. 1866 Stedten Prussian possession.

On April 1, 1972 Oberstedten is incorporated to Oberursel. The incorporation met with considerable discontent of the population that would have given an incorporation to Bad Homburg preference.
