Obsidian Cliff

Obsidian Cliff is a Cliff in Yellowstone National Park, consisting of obsidian, a volcanic glass. On 19 June 1996 it was included in the list of National Historic Landmarks, and thus classified as a site of special historic significance from the U.S. Department of Interior. It is located about halfway between Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Junction. The altitude is 2250 m above sea level. NN. Thus, it stands 45-60 meters above the Obsidian Creek.

The Bannock and other Indian tribes already used at least 11,000 years ago, obsidian from the cliff for arrowheads.

As one of the first white trapper Jim Bridger mentioned the " glass mountain ". His listeners did this description from a tall tale.
