Ochsenfeld

The ox box (French: L' Ochs field ) is a wide plain, which extends from the output of Thann Valley in the west to the Hardt in Mulhouse ( Alsace ) in the east and from the Sundgau in the south to the north Ensisheim. Ochs field is the name given to the natural environment of the Mulhouse region. This level is so called because it was used in the Middle Ages exclusively for cattle and there held a variety of large livestock markets. With the development of agricultural techniques, the ox field became farmland. The northeastern part of the ox field is filled in by the forest landscape of Nonnenbruch forest.

Ox box is also the name of a place between Mountain Home and Wittelsheim in the department of Haut-Rhin ( Upper Rhine ). Here, the archaeological remains of the battle were found in Alsace, in the Roman and Germanic faced each other in the fiercest battle of the time. A tradition says that that battle was the impetus was for the establishment of Mulhouse.
