Odd Nerdrum

Odd Nerdrum ( born April 8, 1944 in Helsingborg, Sweden) is a Norwegian painter and writer.

He studied from 1962 to 1965 at the Art Academy in Oslo ( Statens Academy of Fine Arts ). His painting style is based on Titian, Caravaggio and Rembrandt. Edvard Munch and Ernst Josephson exerted a certain influence on him. Even as a student, he sought claims to a counter movement to the American Pop Art of Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg.

His works can be found today in museums around the world, eg the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, in the National Gallery in Oslo and in the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt. On the art market achieved his pictures prices up to U.S. $ 300,000.

Criticism

Odd Nerdrums art has undergone a lot of criticism. His realistic painting in the style of the Old Masters was devalued as a neoconservative. Private

Nerdrum 17 years spent with the artist Cecilie Broch Knudsen together since 2007 Rector of the School of Art, Oslo. Together they have three daughters. Since 1995, Nerdrum is married to the Hardanger fiddle player Turid Spildo. They have two sons and two daughters. The family lives in Stavern, Norway, and the French Yvelines near Paris.

Tax evasion

Odd Nerdrum for tax evasion was sentenced on August 17, 2011 in Oslo in absentia to two years in prison. He appealed against the judgment. In the second instance the Borgarting increased lagmannsrett on June 27, 2012, the sentence to two years and ten months. Against the sentence has been appealed. Nerdrum pulled thereupon before the Høyesterett, which although could not re-enter the taking of evidence, but canceled the recent ruling.
