Odo of Deuil

Odo of Deuil (French Eudes or Odon de Deuil ) (* 1110, † April 8, 1162 ) was a French Benedictine monk and historian.

He was of humble origin, but was nevertheless a confidant of Abbot Suger of Saint -Denis, the regent of France during King Louis VII was on the Second Crusade, and enforced by Suger as secretary and chaplain to the king.

This prestigious task led him into the king's retinue and thus in 1147 on the Second Crusade. The results on this crusade he wrote down in the book " De profectione Ludovici in orientem ", in which he puts the posterity in a position to understand the difficulties encountered in this crusade.

After his return from the crusade he was in 1151 in succession to Abbot Suger of Saint- Denis.
