The Odyssey was a Liberian oil tanker, which broke out on 10 November 1988 at the Atlantic in two and sank with its cargo of 130,000 tons of crude oil.

History

The ship was in November 1988 on a trip from Sullom Voe in the Shetland Islands to Come By Chance, Newfoundland. The tanker transporting a nearly full boatload of 132 157 tonnes of crude oil of North Sea North Sea Brent crude, which should be processed in the Come -by -Chance refinery. On November 10, the ship broke, still about 700 miles off Newfoundland, during bad weather sank in the North Atlantic in two parts and. The sinking stern came here on fire and ignited the resulting oil slick around the ship.
