Spherical Ladybug ( Oenopia conglobata )

The Spherical ladybug or ladybird poplar ( Oenopia conglobata ) is a beetle of the family of Ladybug ( Coccinellidae ).

Features

The beetles are 3.5 to five millimeters long and have oval, slightly curved body. They have light pink or light yellow wing covers on which there are eight square black spots, which are of different sizes in each animal and can also flow into one another. There are also completely black colored copies. The labels scutellum bears another small, black spot, the elytra seam is also mostly black. The pronotum is light tan-colored and seven black, symmetrically arranged spots. The head is partly bright, partly colored black. Their antennae are yellow, but colored slightly darker at the end, her legs are yellow-brown.

Occurrence

The beetles come in Europe except the north, North Africa and the temperate regions of Asia, but absent in the British Isles and north- west. They live in mixed forests of the lowlands to mild mountain location. They are found mainly on poplars, pines, larches, and Prunusarten, such as Bird cherries.

Food

Like most ladybug species feed on the beetles and larvae of the spherical ladybug aphids.

Way of life

The beetles overwinter under the bark of deciduous trees, especially poplars, elms, sycamores, oaks and horse chestnuts. But it also happens that they lodging between the double windows.
