Offerdal

Offerdal is a parish with about 2100 inhabitants in the northern Swedish community Krokom. It belongs to the diocese Härnösand. Änge, the main town of the parish, is located about 50 kilometers northwest of the capital of Jämtland Östersund. Until 1974 Offerdal was a separate municipality.

Geography

Offerdal situated in the western area of ​​the historical county of Jämtland County Jämtland County today. The southern part of Offerdal has long been dominated by a traditional peasant culture. The northern part of the municipality, Oldfjällen, is part of the Scandinavian Mountains ( Fell ). Other mountains in Offerdal are the Hällberg and Almåsaberg.

History

Offerdal became Christian in the 11th century. The name is Offerdal since 1314, documentary evidence ( Aflodal ). Offerdal was one of the largest communities in Jämtland and belonged to Norway from 1178 to 1536 and from 1537 to 1645 together with Norway to Denmark. 1645 came Offerdal by the Peace of Brömsebro to Sweden. In the northern part of the village has been around since at least 1000 years, a Sami population.

Historically interesting cultural colonization can be found mainly in the southern part of the municipality. Near Kaxås a 8000 years old arrowhead ( Offerdalsspetsen ) was found in 1881. In Gärde are up to 7000 years old petroglyphs. And as you can see there three moose depicted in life-size.

In Rönnöfors there is a mine ruins. In Ede houses the Town Museum Offerdals. A church there both in Ede and in Rönnöfors.

In Offerdal Jämtländisch is still spoken, a highly divergent dialect of the kingdom of Sweden.
