Standard Swedish

Swedish Empire ( swedish rikssvenska ) has several different meanings. It refers to

  • Typically in the kingdom (Sweden) spoken Swedish. In this meaning, it is in contrast to Finland Swedish and Swedish Estonia, so the outside Sweden spoken Swedish.
  • Swedish (written) language standard, as it is taught in school or as a foreign language. This, however, is limited almost exclusively to the written language, as it ( like for example the Germans) are not recognized in Sweden as a "standard Swedish " variant of the Swedish spoken. For the spoken Swedish one distinguishes several regional Akrolekte, which may differ in prosody and phonetics significantly and to a lesser extent in vocabulary and grammar.
  • As a spoken Swedish Empire ( swedish Talad rikssvenska ) a balancing dialect or idiolect, which is used both when communicating with someone who does not speak their own dialect, and understands, as well as in public context.
