Ohio Express

The band Ohio Express was founded in 1967 and was a representative of the Bubblegum genre. She came from the Midwestern United States, from Mansfield, Ohio.

Band History

The band members had known each other since high school. When producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz of " Buddah Records " were looking for a young, trendy band for her new bubblegum sound, they found the hitherto completely unknown group Ohio Express, which was thereby instantly famous.

The height of their success took place in the years 1968/69. During this time they brought in " Buddah Records " several albums and singles out, for example, Sweeter than Sugar, Mercy and Down at Lulu's. The singer of the group, Joey Levine, sang, as always said, as if he had a lot of chewing gum in his mouth. Compared with other bubblegum bands, such as the 1910 Fruitgum Company, the Archies, Music Explosion, Middle of the Road, the Partridge Family or the Bay City Rollers, they played harder music. The opening riff of their success hits Yummy Yummy Yummy been adopted by many bands to Judas Priest.

The group with the Ohio Express founding member Doug Grassel lives temporarily in Europe and are many concerts. The last single was released in Germany under the slightly modified band name OHIO X PRESS. 2013 appeared a live recording of a concert that was broadcast by Antenne Brandenburg 2012 live, on CD under the title " Still Alive & Rockin '.
