Prehistory

The first mention of the gate dates back to the 13th century. It was built for the access road towards Westerberg. Originally the area was marshy before the gate by the Selz, so that it was initially difficult to get there with carts in the village and out. Only for pedestrians, there was a narrow bridge.

20th century - reconstruction and remodeling

By the year 1906 were above the gate originating from the medieval buildings of the nunnery Engelthal who fell victim to road construction. In 1964 the building underwent a number of renovations, where it received an archway on the basis of the Uffhubtor. It is quite possible that the gate in the Middle Ages a very different look than it does today. In contrast to Uffhubtor passenger car traffic never went through the archway. Today the building is a listed building.

Environment

Just before the gate was the Selz flows in a small park. Above the door are the remains of the nunnery.
