The Inousses (Greek Οινούσσες (f. pl. ) ) Are an island group of the eastern Aegean islands in the Aegean Sea. The island group also forms the municipality Inousses ( Dimos Inousson Δήμος Οινουσσών ) and together with the municipality Chios ( Δήμος Χίου ) the Regional District of Chios ( Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Χίου ) in the North Aegean region. The largest island and the only place in the community at the south coast of the same name. The Inousses lie in which only about 17 km wide channel between the Greek island of Chios and the Turkish mainland.

The northwest coast of the island of Chios is located two kilometers to the west, the coast of Turkey nine kilometers east. Only the main island Inousses (also Inoussa or Egnousa ) is inhabited, the other much smaller and uninhabited islands of the archipelago are located southeast of the main island. The main island is about 7.5 miles long, up to 2.8 kilometers wide and has an area of 14.382 km ². The entire island group is 17.427 km ². The green and quite densely forested island is hilly and reaches a height of 182 meters. In summer 2012, a larger area burned in the west of the main island to the monastery Evangelismou.

Approximately 750 to 800 people live permanently on Inousses, in the summer months the population increases significantly. The island is the residence of a number of major Greek shipping families. It is regarded as one of the wealthiest communities in Greece.

The fishing as well as agriculture (including wine ) have lost more and more importance. Tourism is limited mainly to day-trippers from the neighboring island of Chios. Mass tourism is unknown to Inousses yet; However, there are some opportunities for accommodation in private houses and pensions.

The island has some beautiful and uncrowded beaches. In the capital reminds a nautical museum of the heyday of shipping. Inousses in ancient times was not particularly important, so that archaeological sites and sites from this period are not available.

Between Inousses and 17 km south-west to the port of Chios Town runs regularly a ferry.
