OKBM Afrikantov

The OKBM (Russian ОКБМ, Опытное конструкторское бюро машиностроения им. И. И. Африкантова, Experimental mechanical engineering design office Afrikantov II ) is a company in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. It is the manufacturer of the BN reactors, UK reactors, AST reactors KLT reactors WBER, ABV reactors, VG reactors, PWR- 1000 reactors and reactors OK.

History

On March 1, 1947, established by the Soviet government in the Gorki Maschinenfabrik the Office of Special Planning. It should create machine components for the nuclear industry. Later it was removed and is now subordinate to a public undertaking, the Ministry of Atomic Energy. Since 1998, it bears the name of the addition of II Afrikantov, a former chief designer and director.

OKBM has designed a new control system for the reactor VVER of OKB Gidropress. The company employs more than 3600 workers and has built more than 500 commercial reactors and research reactors.

The company has, among other things, the reactors Beloyarskaya 3 built with a BN -600 and is currently building block 4 (BN -800) in Beloyarskaya as well as the AST reactors in Gorky and Voronezh. Some reactors for submarines type OK has built the company. The company currently manufactures the two KLT -40S reactors for the nuclear power station Akademik Lomonosov.
