Oktogon

The octagon ( in address labels octagon tér " Oktogonplatz ") is an urban traffic intersection in Budapest. Here the Terez krt overlap designated portion of the Great Ring Road ( Grand Boulevard, formerly Lenin krt ) in northwest -southeast direction and at right angles thereto extending Andrássy út.

At the octagon there is a tram stop of lines 4 and 6, a bus stop of line 105 and a station under the square of the M1 line of the Budapest Metro.

Name and history

The name refers to the octagon octagonal design of the place by the early 1870s, designed by Antal Szkalnitzky constructed building. In 1936 he was in Mussolini tér ( " Mussolini Square " ) and 1945 November 7 tér renamed ( " Place of November 7 ") before 1990 he was returned to its original name.

Since its construction in the city was extended end of the 19th century the square is one of the major traffic intersections between Westbahnhof and the Pest City. It presents itself today as the site of many ( fast food) restaurant chains.
