Olaf Heukrodt

Olaf Heukrodt ( born January 23, 1962 in Magdeburg ) is a former German canoeist and current sports official and canoe coach. He was a five-time medalist at the Olympics in canoe racing.

Sports career

At the Olympic Games in 1980 he won the one-man canoe (C1) over 500 m and bronze in the two - Canadians ( C2) 1000m silver medal.

At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, he could not compete because the states of the Eastern bloc boycotted. At the Olympic Summer Games in Seoul in 1988 he won the gold medal in the C1 500 m and silver in the C2 over 1000 m. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona he won for the reunified Federal Republic again bronze in C1 than 500 m.

Sports official

After his playing career was Heukrodt Personal Member of the National Olympic Committee for Germany and a member of the advisory committee of the German Sports Aid Foundation.

In April 2005, Olaf Heukrodt was chosen as the successor of Ulrich Feldhoff President of the German Canoe Association. In 2006 he was appointed to competitive sports of the German Olympic Sports Confederation in the Presidential Commission. Since 2007 he is a member of the Bureau of European Canoe Association ( ECA). In 2010, he resigned as president of the German Canoe Association. His successor was Thomas Konietzko.

Career

Olaf studied Heukrodt 1987-1991 Sport Sciences at the branch office of the DHfK in Berlin. After the closure of the branch office in Berlin, he was unable to finish due to the preparations for the 1992 Summer Olympics his studies. He trained as a banker at Dresdner Bank. There he was employed until 2008. He lives in Leipzig, where he is currently a coach at the SC DHfK Leipzig in canoe racing operates.
