Olav Thon

Olav Thon ( born June 29, 1923 in Ål in Hallingdal ) is a Norwegian real estate developer and one of the richest people in Norway with an estimated total assets of approximately NOK 12 billion ( € 1.5 billion ). In the Forbes list of the richest people he is led in 2009 to 334th place with a fortune of about $ 2 billion.

Life and work

In 1951 he bought his first building in 1966 and opened his first restaurant. It comprises, inter alia, 47 hotels in Thon Hotel chain and various shopping centers in Norway. Overall, the existence of the group includes about 420 buildings in Norway and another 25 outside.

He lives in Sollihøgda, a town of the municipality of Hole.

Planned Foundation

In September 2008 it was announced that he would bring almost his entire fortune to a foundation.
