Old World flying squirrel
Japanese Flying Squirrel ( Pteromys Momonga )
The Real Flying Squirrel Flying Squirrel or Old World ( Pteromys ) are a genus of flying squirrels. Only two species are expected to this genus:
- European flying squirrel, Pteromys volans (Linnaeus 1758), Northern Europe, Siberia, Korea, Sakhalin, Hokkaido
- Japanese flying squirrel, Pteromys Momonga ( Temminck 1844), Honshu, Kyushu
The designation as " True " or " European " flying squirrel is probably a bit unhappy and to explain from Euro -centric point of view, because the only occurring in Europe kind of flying squirrel belongs to this genus. Both species are inhabitants of boreal coniferous forests.
