Oldenburg–Bremen railway

The railway Bremen- Oldenburg is a 44.4 km long railway main plug that connects Oldenburg and the northwest of Lower Saxony with Bremen.

It is traveled by individual Intercity Express (Oldenburg and Munich ), Intercity (North dike / Oldenburg -Leipzig ), as well as freight and commuter trains.

Since December 2010, the track in the Regio -S -Bahn Bremen / Lower Saxony is involved. Since the conversion, the former regional line of Deutsche Bahn runs as a new line RS3 Nordwestbahn between Bremen Hbf and Bad Zwischenahn.

Course

The route leaves the Bremen Central Station on the west side and meanders with several tight turns at the former main freight yard and the " Northwest nodes " of the Federal Highway 6 past with several freight lines branching off to the bridge over the river Weser. This was until the construction of the Weser tunnel, the northernmost permanent crossing of the river.

The route continues over Bremen -Neustadt west to Delmenhorst, where the traveling of the North Western Railway branch line branches off to Vechta and Osnabrück. From there it leads to the northwest by Hude. There she is linked to the main railway to Nordenham. In the district of Oldenburg Osternburg she takes to the track from Osnabrück. The Hunte is crossed with a bascule bridge, behind it lies the Oldenburg Main Station.

History

The track was a joint project of the States Oldenburg and Prussia, and was officially opened jointly with the track rail line Oldenburg- Wilhelmshaven on 14 July 1867, which began operating scheduled here on the following day, to Wilhelmshaven in September. Two years later, the connection from Oldenburg to Leer ( Ostfriesland) at the Emsland line (Münster -empty Emden ), 1875 to Nordenham. Since this range includes all ports between the Weser and Ems to ( south ) east, especially after Bremen, Hamburg and Hanover. It shall apply from the outset as an important link in the northern German rail network.

During the Second World War, the railway line was built in 1941 damaged in an air raid on Oldenburg (Oldenburg ) and 1943 during an air raid on Delmenhorst. In addition, the Weser bridge was destroyed in Bremen. A replacement structure was repaired in 1947 victims of the ice conditions, but within five weeks. The current bridge was completed in 1962.

State and outlook

Today the connection is continuous double track, electrified and with up to 160 km / h passable.

The construction of the JadeWeserPort in Wilhelmshaven is expected to rise considerably freight. The " additional requirements" for the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan also calls for a doubling of the connection ( Groningen/Emden- ) short -Oldenburg for freight. It is unclear whether the doubling and electrification to Wilhelmshaven coinciding with the start-up of new port is ready. In addition, the area of Bremen can only receive limited freight trains without further extensions.

Plans to lead the tram Bremen as a regional light rail on this route or to Delmenhorst Oldenburg, have been for the time being set aside in favor of the S -Bahn project.

In passenger long-distance driving on the track between Oldenburg and Bremen Hbf daily IC trains every two hours to Leipzig Hbf or Dresden Hbf ( with a stop in Delmenhorst ). It is complemented by individual ICE trains in the morning and in the evening to Munich, Berlin and Frankfurt ( Main). The transport takes place in various forms. In addition, every two hours drive to the IC staggered regional express trains of Deutsche Bahn every two hours between Bremen and Oldenburg Hbf ( Oldb. ) Hbf on the relation Hannover Hbf - north dike (moles ) with a stop in Delmenhorst and Hude. Single diesel-powered trains of the NCA relation Bremen- Wilhelmshaven and other RE- trains the relation Emden Hbf and Bremen Hbf complement the roadmap of the commuter express line.

Since the timetable change in December 2010, the distance between Oldenburg ( Oldb. ) Hbf and Bremen Hbf is served by the line RS 3 Regio -S -Bahn Bremen / Niedersachsen every hour, which is operated by the North Western Railway. The RS 3 replaced the former regional rail line in the DB and stops at all intermediate stations (Bremen -Neustadt, Heidkrug, Delmenhorst, Hoykenkamp, Schierbrok, Bookholzberg, Hude and Wüsting ).

On the stretch between Bremen Hbf and Hude nor wrong in addition, the line RS 4 to Nordenham that branches in Hude of the railway track Hude - Blexen.
