Oleg Yankovsky

Oleg Ivanovich Jankowski (Russian Олег Иванович Янковский, scientific transliteration Oleg Ivanovich Jankovskij; born February 23, 1944 in Dscheskasgan, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union, † 20 May, 2009 Moscow) was a Russian theater and film actor, director and People's Artist of the USSR.

In 1965 he graduated from a theater school in Saratov, first played at the Saratov Drama Theatre. Since 1973 he worked at the Moscow Lenkom Theatre in the troop of Mark Zakharov.

His first film role was Oleg Jankowski in 1968 in the World War II drama shield and sword. He then appeared in over 70 film productions, including films by Andrei Tarkovsky in, Mark Zakharov, Igor Maslennikov and Mikhail Swiss. Since 1993, Jankowski was president of the annual Russian Film Festival in Sochi Kinotawr.

Oleg Jankowski died on 20 May 2009 after a long illness with pancreatic cancer.

His brother is also excellent with the title of People's Artist of the USSR Rostislav actor Jankowski, his son is the film director Filipp Jankowski.
