The Prachtwickler ( Olethreutes arcuella ) is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the winder ( Tortricidae ).

Features

The moths have a wingspan of 14-18 millimeters. Their color is only slightly variable in the extent and the intensity of the drawing. Males and females do not differ in their appearance. The forewings have a orange-reddish color and patterned with metallic blue-gray lines and yellow spots. The Prachtwickler is one of the most colorful among the curlers. The species is similar Olethreutes subtilana very, but rather has narrower wings. However, the distinction between the species using external characteristics is difficult.

The caterpillars are dark violet gray to dark brown and have a yellowish- brown head and a dark neck shield.

Dissemination

The species is widespread Palaearctic, but from the east, the locality data are inaccurate. In Japan, they are probably missing. The frequently encountered species inhabited forests and clearings or glades and Gentiles with wood species.

Way of life

The diurnal moths fly from May to August. They may be seen sunbathing on leaves. The dark brown caterpillars usually develop on the ground of fallen, withered and rotting leaves. They are found in late summer to the dead leaves and low growing plants in leaf litter between foliage. The caterpillar pupates in the spring.
