Olhörn lighthouse

P4

The lighthouse Olhörn, also beacon Olhörn or sometimes called Lighthouse Olderhörn, is a small lighthouse on the German North Sea island of Foehr in Schleswig -Holstein.

Location and description

The tower is located in the southeast of the island of Fohr marsh in the district of the city Wyk in the district of North Friesland. It stands on a ridge of of rather low altitude over the south beach of Wyk near the spa rooms.

Instead of a 1892 light beacon erected the present tower was built in 1952. It has a height of about eight meters; the height of fire is located 10 meters above MHW. The tower has an approximately square plan and consists of solid construction of the wall, which is covered with a red - brown brick facade. About the accessible platform rises the existing metal and painted white lantern with the optics. The remote controlled tower has the function of cross- brand fire and used for navigation of shipping in the Norderaue between the mainland port Dagebüll and the islands of Fohr and Amrum. It is therefore a navaid and provides (due to its rather low height ) limited, a landmark on the island dar.
