Oliver Taylor (boxer)

Oliver Taylor ( born February 19, 1938 in Townsville, Queensland, Australia ) is an Australian former boxer.

Amateur

Taylor won as an amateur in 1957 and 1959, the Australian bantamweight championship. In the Commonwealth Games 1958, he took a second place. In 1960 he won at the Olympic Games in Rome the bronze medal in the bantamweight after the Argentine Primo Zamparini defeated on points in the semifinals.

Professional career

In 1961 he turned professional and started with a series of twelve battles without defeat with only a draw. In 1963 he won in a rematch of the Olympic semi-final against Primo Zamparini. The following two fights brought him to the decision to quit boxing. First he lost a fight in April 1964 against Robert Allotay by knockout in the fourth round. Also, the battle for the Australian Championship at featherweight in September of the same year he lost, this time on points against John Famechon.
