Olli Mustonen

Olli Mustonen ( born June 7, 1967 in Helsinki) is a Finnish pianist, conductor and composer.

Life

Olli Mustonen received at the age of five years, harpsichord, with seven years of piano lessons with Ralf Gothóni and from 1975 lessons in composition with Einojuhani Rautavaara. He continued his education to become a conductor and concert pianist studied at Eero Heinonen. In 1984, he won second place in the competition for young soloists ( Euro Vision Young Musicians ) in Geneva and gave his first concerts with various Finnish orchestras. In 1989, he assumed duties in Finnish musical life: as artistic director of the Korsholm Music Festival and the Turku Music Festival (1990-1992), as co-founder and director of the Helsinki Festival Orchestra and since 2003 as conductor of the chamber orchestra Tapiola Sinfonietta. As a pianist concerted Mustonen among others, with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic and the conductor Vladimir Davidovich Ashkenazy, Barenboim, Kent Nagano, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Charles Dutoit, Myung- Whun Chung, Christoph Eschenbach, Pierre Boulez. Work

  • For the recording of the 24 Preludes and Fugues by Dmitri Shostakovich and the 25 Preludes by Charles- Valentin Alkan Mustonen received the 1992 Edison Award and Gramophone Award for Best Instrumental Recording.
