The Olperer is a 3476 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Zillertal Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol. He is the main peak of the Tux ridge and is often exceeded in the summer of the Olpererhütte from the Gera hut. The first ascent via the southeast ridge was held by Paul Grohmann, Georg Samer and Gainer Jackie on September 10, 1867. On the northern edge of the Hintertux Glacier ski area is located on the glacier Frozen Wall Kees (also called Tux addition ).

Location

The Olperer has with its pyramid-shaped summit of a striking appearance. This, and the geographical dominance over its neighboring peaks, it is a popular vantage point. It is located about four kilometers in a straight line to the northwest of Schlegeisspeicher dam and seven kilometers south of Hintertux. Neighboring mountains to the north, separated by the Wildlahnerscharte ( 3220 m) are the Great Kaserer with 3266 meters of altitude, in the southeast of the ridge line of the 3381 meters high Fußstein and in the northeast finally separated by the glacier Large Riepenkees are the Frozen Wall tips with 3270 meters in the south summit.

Bases and easiest routes

The path of Paul Grohmann and his companions led from the southeast over the Riepenkar and Riepengrat. My base was located in Zamser reason.

As a base since 1881 serving the Olpererhütte, situated on 2388 meters above sea level. Grohmann's way is still the normal route today. The walk from the hut is according to the literature about four hours. The road runs along the south-east. After a relatively easy rock climbing to reach the snowfield " Schneegupf ". The key point directly followed was defused by wire ropes, at least self- assurance is here but pleasant, as it is very steep going up. The following is a not very difficult ( UIAA I-II), but very exposed Gratpassage ( unversichert! ). Securing points for their own safety ropes are available. The way on to nearby peaks is again somewhat easier, however, remains very exposed.

A further increase leads from the Wildlahnerscharte the sometimes icy even in midsummer the North Ridge ( moderate to difficult climb UIAA II to III). The Wildlahnerscharte can be reached from the Gera hut ( 2324 m) to the northeast over the first Olpererferner south on Wildlahnergrat past (some crevasses ) ( four hours to the summit); by Tux - addition -Haus ( 2605 m) by the resort; or from the Olpererhütte through the Great Riepenkees and then also by the ski area.
