Om (Band)

Om is an experimental stoner rock or psychedelic rock band that was founded by former or still partially active members of the band Sleep.

History

Om was founded in 2004 by Alberto Cisneros (bass, vocals) and Chris Hakius (drums).

Their debut album, Variations On A Theme Om took in 2004, in the fall of 2006 was the successor to The Conference Of The Birds, which includes only two songs. The album Pilgrimage, consisting of four tracks, was released in 2007. Then they were on tour in the United States and Europe and also in Jerusalem. In early 2008 left the drummer Chris Hakius the band and was replaced by Emil Amos.

Style

The main elements of Om are bass, drums and vocals. In God is Good or advaitic songs but also cello, violin, tambura ( effects), tabla or flute were used. Advaitic songs is mostly quiet, oriental, subtle and melodic. The song is like a mantra, but it sounds similar in most songs a chant that connects usually with a single main pitch of the bass guitar. The lyrics are aimed at transcendence and describe both abstract, cosmic and nature-mystical or spiritual metaphysical categories, ideas and events. The texts are comparable with abstract reflections, which are structured by the rhythm. Diets, such as rhymes no value is set.

Al Cisneros emphasized that the vocals rather than rhythmic works grammatically. The texts are mainly aimed at the conceptual and internal base, which he freely designed during his then pause, as has also written for instrumental.

Since God is Good, or switching to Emil Amos, takes the music to more variety and sets the former works against virtually. The drumming used increasingly fine accents and faster drum fills than the usual argc and constant style of Chris Hakius.

Bass

Al Cisneros plays almost exclusively bass guitar manufacturer Rickenbacker, Rickenbacker 4003 Fireglo example models and Rickenbacker 4003 jetglo. He is also known for his for his use of Green Amps tube amps and cabinets. In advaitic songs Cisneros used the first time a 5-string, also from the brand Rickenbacker.

Especially crucial for Cisneros ' sound is the use of hypnotic- gnashing, grim Verzerrefekten who are not substitutes for distorted electric guitars, however. The slow play, often on one string, create a hypnotic state and at the same time the feeling of intense droning rock music. In each song there is a main pitch, on which is based the song.

The band presented already at their first jam that no other instrument except bass, drums and vocals was necessary.
