Omar Caetano

Omar Caetano Otero ( born November 9, 1938 † 2 July 2008) was a Uruguayan football player.

Club career

Born depending on the source location on the 8th or November 9, 1938 Caetano began his club career with the club Canillitas del Uruguay. From 1961 he was a member of the Montevideaner club Peñarol and held the club for 14 years loyalty. During this time he was able to celebrate a total of nine championships with disastrous appearance. In 1961 and 1966 he was also involved in the respective title of the Copa Libertadores and the World Cup. In 1962, he was defeated by the Aurinegros in the playoff the Copa Libertadores against FC Santos, where he commenced this defeat with an own goal. At the end of his career he moved in 1975 to the United States to New York Cosmos.

National

The El Cacho said midfielder was a member of the Uruguayan national football team, for which he completed a total of 29 matches during the period of May 2, 1965 to August 10, 1969, in which he could not score a goal. He participated in the Soccer World Cup 1966 and the World Cup tournament in 1970 with the Celeste. In addition, he won with his home country in the Copa América 1967.
